Trash or Treasure
For some people, things from the past are considered trash or junk. They do not understand how bits of scrap fabric can be a treasure to others. It is hard for me to understand this way. I happen to be one who appreciates things from the past, especially if they have been crafted by someone's hands. Well, for Christmas this year, a young teacher at my school presented me with a treasure. It was a quilt handmade by his great grandmother. I was astounded to say the least.
He told me that he had often heard me talk about old quilts and knew that I would appreciate what his great grandmother had done. He told me that she was known as one who always gave away her quilts and that she would have loved for me to have one. I understand that she made quilts up until she died. She died in her 90s. Isn't that amazing? The time and love it took to sew each stitch. That, to me, is a treasure. Thank you, Richard, for thinking of me and for giving me such a beautiful treasure.

Pink and Green - Not Sure?
After blocking, sewing in the lining and adding the ribbon, I'm still not sure I like the color combination.
Love the purse just not sure I like the ribbon. My intent was to match the pink in the lining.
Maybe it is the wrong shade of pink. I'll have to keep looking for ribbon.
As mentioned in the last entry, I have been using my camera everyday. My husband thinks it is funny that I love taking pictures of food. Last night I made some biscuits from scratch. See....
Before the oven -
After the oven -
With butter from the Happy Cow Creamery and some jam, they didn't last long.

Don't Forget to Shake
I am having so much fun with my new camera. I have taken pictures everyday of all sort of things in order to have a picture each day for Project 365. According to the tips from this project:
Taking a photo a day will make you a better photographer. Using your camera every day will help you learn its limits. You will get better at composing your shots, you’ll start to care about lighting, and you’ll become more creative with your photography when you’re forced to come up with something new every single day.
"A better photographer".....time will tell. Any case, I'm having fun.
Here are a few pictures I have taken:
The picture from yesterday was taken at the Happy Cow Creamery. I love this place. This dairy has the best cheese and milk. The milk isn't homogenized, so as you leave the dairy, drive pass the cows,
you are reminded by a series of signs to shake the milk well.
Now for an update of completed and almost completed works of knitting. My dishcloths were somewhat depleted over the holidays. So I have been trying to stock up. This yellow cloth is Grandma's Favorite pattern with some added color strips.
I have also been trying to stock up on bibs. This pattern is a dish cloth pattern (Lacy Checks) converted in a bib.
This cable purse needs the finishing touches - blocking, lining, bangle handles and ribbon.
Once finished, the purse is suppose to look something like this:
I am thinking about using either a pink or brown ribbon.

Over the River and Through the Woods
What?????
Is that what I think it is? Skulls? Can it be? No way! Yeah, way!!
How many people can say they collect skulls and display them on top of their store?
If you think this is amazing, you should go inside the store. Unfortunately, it was closed when I passed by, so I was not able to take pictures. Inside the store you would find a menagerie of stuffed animals from the local woods, rivers and lakes. Squirrels, beavers, deer, fish, etc. Oh, my!
Update on knitting project from November:
"Before felting"
"After felting"
Now all I need is something pretty for the flap.

New Year...New Opportunities
2008 Amazing that 8 years ago the world was concerned with Y2K. My how time flies!
Well, my vacation time is amost over. One more day and then it is back to school. I have had a ball catching up with my blog readings. It is always so much fun peering into the lives of total strangers who have become like members of my family. I have also enjoyed spending time on Ravelry. I became a member not too long ago, but just didn't have the time to explore the opportunites on that site. Just this week, I have been in contact with a couple of knitters from my own town. Nice!
While reading Karyn's recent entry, she mentioned a photo project where one takes a picture every day for the entire year. It is called Project 365. Since I received a very nice gift from my husband for Christmas, I thought this was an interesting project. Not sure I can do this every single day, because life gets in the way sometimes. However, the idea seems like a nice opportunity to document one's life.
Speaking of gifts, I also received this nice little gift for Christmas. Fun, fun, fun. I feel like a teenager again - downloading songs and taking them everywhere I go. This little gift made walking a pleasure this morning. I downloaded some NPR shows and had a nice chilly walk to the park and back. Ooh, opportunity to get healthier. Maybe?
Well, time for bed...this has been a great week for SEC football - even though South Carolina didn't make it to a bowl, it has been fun watching SEC teams whip up on other conference teams. Only 2 SEC teams have lost so far (Arkansas and Florida). Presently UGA is stumping Hawaii - go dawgs!
