Am I the Last To Know?

How many times have I pulled foil out of the box and the entire roll falls unwinding as it traveled across the kitchen floor? Too many times to count. Then trying to roll the foil back onto the roll is not possible without creating wrinkles. The other day I received an email from a friend to express her surprise to discover that many boxes of aluminum foil and plastic wrap have tabs on the ends of the boxes to prevent such mishaps. All one has to do is push in the tabs. Tabs just like this:

Something so simple. I am amazed. Where was I when the Home Ec. teacher discussed this? (I'm from the generation where we took home economics in high school.)Why didn't my mother ever tell me this? Wonder if she knew? Amazing...

School is almost over for this year....YES!!!!! I love this time of year. Flowers are beginning to bloom in the yard. I have enjoyed taking pictures and then playing with Photoshop Elements 6. Something I recently learned was how to fix blemishes. The petals on this daylily had some imperfections. With a few clicks, magically the petals are looking better.

With school coming to an end, I have decided that I want to knit something different, a little more challenging and something to wear while I am home for a few weeks. This is what I am contemplating:

A Little Quilting Time

Between trying to master Photoshop Elements 6 and working in the yard, I have pieced together the top of a new baby quilt. (Trying to stock pile future baby gifts.)

I love the primary colors of red, yellow and blue. And as usual, I had a plan in mind of how I wanted the top to look but somehow in the process, it turned out completely different. That is what is so nice about quilting. If the plan doesn't work, then call it a patchwork quilt. I think with this quilt I am going to hand quilt the top. It isn't a large quilt and I enjoyed hand quilting the last table top I made.

Boy, have I got "wishing it was summer" blues. I think I have 3 more weeks before school is out. Yippee!!! This past weekend contributed to my "blues". I did a little of this:

Also, my husband and I visited my youngest brother and his family in Montreat, NC on Sunday. Our nephew is graduating from high school and was part of the service at church. The service was wonderful and the weather was gorgeous.

We ate at one of my favorite eateries in Black Mountain:

Bicycle Racing

DSC_0051_edited-1

For several years, Greenwood has been one of the hosts of the USA Crits Speedweek. Bicycle criteriums are spectator-friendly bike racing venues that feature riders completing each lap in about 1 minute.

I love being a spectator while inwardly wishing I was in the shape of these young people. Their strength and stamina is amazing.

The women's race consists of 50 laps and the men's 70 laps. The course circles around the main portion of our uptown. It took the men about an hour and half to complete the race and the distance totaled a little over 100 miles. Whew!!

Between the women's race and the men's race, they held a race for future criterium cyclists.
